Garden

Where:

near Cannes, France

This substantial, sloping garden had many terraces, very common in this part of the world, which were in poor repair and needed reinstating. The lower part of the garden was  re-structured with retaining walls to accommodate a tennis court, including a seating/umpiring area reached by a spiral staircase. Level areas were maximised to allow for play spaces, shaded spots and a boules pitch for this young family.

Existing plants were retained as much as possible and augmented with a combination of mature specimens and decorative shrubs and perennials. A wonderful palette of columnar cypress, mimosa, oleanders, agaves, palms and olive trees were underplanted with swathes of anthemis, rosemary, lavender and agapanthus.
