Garden
Where:
Edinburgh
This garden is sited on a hill in the northwest of Edinburgh. The house is built of red brick and render and so we chose to carry the brick into the garden to form the terracing. The client brief was to make the garden more usuable - large parts of it were not - given the slope and original over-planting of conifers. The design creates three levels, easily accessed with two opening from different areas of the house.
The lower terrace is a sheltered sun trap for afternoon sun, main terrace offers generous seating and dedicated trampoline recess for this family of keen gymnasts, with the upper terrace giving amazing views across of the castle and beyond to the Firth of Forth. Photos show initial planting, which will be augmented next season.
